Lloyd Taber Marina del Rey CA Library Water Quality
I am not a professional water tester and I can not say if water is safe or not to drink however this test shows the drinking water with a higher than normal pH. Although the library is in an ideal location for viewing the marina it may be receiving contaminants from the sea water system or the older pipe and fountain system. This tap water was tested at the drinking fountain inside the Lloyd Taber Marina del Rey Library at 4533 Admiralty Way, Marina Del Rey, CA today 2/19/2010:
Temp: 76.7 F
TDS: 922 (0-1000 drinking water 1000-1500 brackish 1500+ sea water)
pH: 8.61 (The normal range for pH in surface-water systems is 6.5 to 8.5 but 7 is pure)
EC: 301 (~0-500 drinking water 500+ sea water)
This test was provided by the HI 98129.
Would I use this water?
I would try not to drink this water. This water is above the safe pH for drinking water based upon the EPA’s secondary standards. It is also above the CDC’s standard range for safe swimming water. The normal range for drinking water is between 6.5 and 8.5. My opinion is that if you visit this Marina del Rey Library be sure to bring your own water for you and your children. Do not let them get close to the water fountain because they may drink the untested water. The lower water fountain is also not working so there was only testing done on the higher fountain.

More information about this concern can be found here on the CDC:
http://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/drinking/private/wells/testing.html
- pH
- The pH level tells you how acidic or basic your water is. The pH level of the water can change how your water looks and tastes. If the pH of your water is too low or too high, it could damage your pipes, cause heavy metals like lead to leak out of the pipes into the water, and eventually make you sick.
Anything over 8.0 the CDC says:
- Poor Chlorine Disinfection
- Eye Irritation
- Skin Irritation

Thanks David, I love your blog too but the last post was almost a year ago today! Let’s get some new stuff up. I want to see some fish in water!
