1099 Termination Letters are common for any business, group, or individual that relies upon contractors for services. Normally the termination of a 1099 is a normal part of the project that is clearly defined in the original contract so both parties know when to expect the termination. 1099 termination letters are for independent contractors who require non-employee compensation.

When To Write A 1099 Termination Letter

Anytime you hire someone that requires a 1099 it is important to clearly define how the relationship will terminate in a contract. Normally each party understands that once the project is complete the 1099 independent contractor is terminated but there may be requirements for a 30 day notice or other letters to confirm the termination. Check your contract to make sure you are following the agreed upon termination procedure. If the termination agreement is not in the contract it is normal to provide 2-4 weeks of notice with a 1099 termination letter.

It may also be the case that a 1099 termination letter is appropriate after the project is complete to confirm with service provider that the project is complete and no additional services are needed.

If you are terminating your agreement before the agreed end of the contract then it may be best to consult a legal adviser on the best way to get out of the contract. I am not a lawyer and I can not provide legal advise but it seems to be best to hire the right 1099 contractor for the job, check references, licensing, and have each party sign the agreement before the service begins. Also, create wording in the contract that explains what would happen if the 1099 does not complete the project or does not complete it in a certain time frame.

Writing the 1099 Termination Letter

It may be best to write the termination letter in a simple format by email, PDF, or if necessary on company letterhead. Typically you should write the letter in the same format that you normally conduct business in with the 1099 service provider. This means if you normally correspond and work out agreements by email then email would be the best way to deliver the termination letter. I also suggest reading over the general Contract Termination Letter for more information on this.

1099 Termination Letter Example

Current Date

Address of Party 1

To Whom it May Concern:

Thank you for your business as an independent contractor. Please consider this our notice to terminate the contract contract between (party 1) and (party 2) on good terms ending Month Day, Year. The original agreement allows this type of termination in section (provide section numbers here). The reason for the termination is (reasons for termination). Since the total amount of services in the contract exceeds $600, we will be filing a 1099 with the IRS and sending a copy to you. Please report any address changes to us to ensure your forms are delivered correctly. If you have any questions about this contract termination please contact us by email at (email address). Thank you.

Sincerely,

Reduce The Need For An Early 1099 Termination Letter

In some states any project that requires $500 or more in services and materials may also require your contractor has insurance and a license. If you are using a 1099 contractor you can confirm their license and status if required by the state. A quick review of the license may reveal concerns or problems that

There are some simple ways to spot hokey businesses though a quick check. Hokey in this case can mean phony and obviously contrived. I have lived in the United States for almost all of my life and I have been a client of, and worked for a variety of businesses some hokey but most were legitimate.

Yes, I worked for a short period of time at businesses that in the end I did not believe “helped people” which is what I will base this post on. I will also assume that people can work for any business they choose and people are not trapped in working at jobs that offer little or no purpose.

Here is a short list of easy ways to spot a Hokey Business:

Forces you to sign up and pay for membership/service well before the service should start. A company may require payment in advance if they do not have an accounting or billing department but the service should have an exact time line and start right after payment.

Asks for investment money or interest with out a complete written contract and full disclosure about exactly what will happen with your money with how & when you will be paid. Real investors know each other well over many years and have a strong relationship. If you don’t have this, it’s time for a formal contract that a professional should look over.

Has anything to do with a pyramid structure or marketing schemes including friends buying from friends. Oil, home products, magazines, and other types of industries are well known to try this so be warned. It does not work. The pay outs are always a fraction of your investment and time in the end and I suggest investing in yourself instead.

Asks you to do business out-of-state but does not have a current, exposed, and resourceful website. If you have a business, you have a informative helpful website. Only poor fly-by-night companies or hokey businesses are missing web exposure now.

Any public representative of a business that will not send you their information (even over the phone) including first and last name with title at the business is a “hokey business.” Collection companies that work under false names and some low quality banks have done this.

Any business that does not offer easy to access contact information like a phone number or email that someone will answer with in 24 hours is hokey. Every business should have basic customer service.

Can not tell you how much a service or product will cost until it is complete or shipped makes a business hokey. Businesses should know how much their services or products cost before they sell them.

If any business changes the name or has different names for the same business it is hokey. Many business try to hide behind new names or just push marketing materials by changing the name.

There are many other ways to spot a hokey business and I will be sure to post more at this site. Also, please leave your comments if you have seen any common characteristics of “hokey business.” Try a *review search* for a hokey business, phone number, and contact information on Google and other search engines. See what other people have to say. Any business that has clients will have at least some reviews that are posted online.

Throughout most of my life many people I have come in contact with seem to use various words when it comes to the size or display resolution of an image. We are not talking about the size stored on your drive or camera, but more about the display size. It is easy to understand when there are so many different words to describe similar things. This basic resolution information should help make it a little more clear and easy to understand if you are a complete novice or beginner with images and resolution. I have been working with image resolution though my profession for years on the web and in print so these are just words and an understanding most other people have used with me.

Photos should be taken in the best display resolution available. You can always make the resolution smaller but you can’t capture the exact photo again in a higher resolution. The reason why a photo should be sized correctly is so people can see it or load it quickly. A web photo on Facebook would be sized smaller than a poster image. As an example photos on the web should normally be smaller than images sized for printed posters.

Think of everything in sensors. Sensors capture the image and the image is converted into pixels. The more pixels in the image the higher the resolution. This image originally had dimensions of: 1752 × 2302 sensors but you are most likely seeing it live on the web in 233 x 300 pixels so it loads fast and does not take up the entire browser window.

Paris Tower Resolution Example

Example resolutions in your daily life:

300 x 600 IMU – (Half Page Ad) This is an IAB standard size for the Web

1280 x 1024 The resolution on some computer screens.

2700×1800 Minimum “DPI suggested from Snapfish” for a printed 20″ x 30″ poster.

6120 × 4500 IMAX actually discernible pixels.

Megapixel or MP (1 million pixels) is just a number created by multiplying these two numbers. So 20000 x 15000 would be 300000000 or “300 Megapixels.” If an image was taken in 300 MP then it must have 300000000 pixels in the image.

When printing an image DPI is just “dots per square inch” which could be understood as pixels per square inch or the resolution used on the page.

When a photographer or videographer takes images or video of your event, product, or person be sure to receive the best resolution available or hopefully the resolution it was taken in so that you can make crisp large prints. Images can always be made smaller so that you can email them or upload them for your friends but you can never make them larger in the same great resolution.

To see the resolution on most computers just look at the general file properties of the image. Average windows users can right click on the file, go to properties, and see the resolution. Please let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions about the resolution or size of an image.

Special thanks to WSR Creative’s Jose Delgado for his help with some great resolution video work this last year.

Sales incentive games are everywhere in corporate America and in small businesses with a sales team. Sales is the action of helping someone or a group of people purchase a product or service. An incentive is a reason or benefit for doing a task in this case and you can easily create games based off of incentives in a sales environment.

Spiff Sales Incentive Games

The first and most common sales incentive is money. There is no question about it because most sales people work for money. They work on commission and they make more the more they sell. This simple game can be pushed into “spiffs” where the sales person receives cash or a gift card when they achieve a given goal. $50, $100 gift cards are great for sales reps who need to pay bills or just have a nice dinner on the town.

Let The Sales Person Decide The Target

Who makes the most calls, who has the most hours on the phone, and who has the most contracts signed are oldies even through they can still work. I would suggest something more innovative like who can sell the most of a given product that is selected by the group. This way the sales professionals pick their target product or service that they can win a spiff on. Give the choice to the sales professional and the game master decides the amount.

10 year mortgage rates are in the news right now. After hearing that the Federal Reserve is spending 1 trillion to lower the interest rates some people are thinking about a short term loan with a low rate.

A metro newspaper even mentioned that today the rate is at 2.5 for a 10 year and that is where it could stay. Most new home buyers are interested in a 30 year fixed so they can pay a small amount over time while working or owning their own business. 10 year rates may not apply to everyone but if you can afford to make the payments the current interest rate may be the perfect solution for you.

10 Year Mortgage Rates Decrease

Have you been watching the rate decrease? Well you can watch it here. The mortgage rate trend has been going down since November of 2008. It has been at a low point for about 3 months and the 10 year fixed rate is slightly lower than the 15 year mortgage or even the 30 year rate. This drop in 2009 is shown on any financial site including yahoo.com and I suggest that you look into shelter options all around the world before taking out the next major loan.

I have worked both away and from home for most of my life. I am not one of the lucky people that can singly work away or only work at home because of the amount of work that I feel I need to complete. These days we are trying to cut down on spending including gas, wear and tear on cars, and pollution. Many companies are requiring their staff to work from home with a few in person meetings a quarter.

I have seen so many untrue work at or from home listings that I am committed to only providing postings that really work.

Sell Your No-Longer-Needed Items From Home

One way to make money from home that I know works is to sell any items that you do not need any more on the Internet. Use your own web site and others like craigslist.org and other local classified posting boards from the comfort of your own home. See your items for a reasonable price, the items will be used again, and you will not end of moving it to the dump in a few years. I have seen many people make 1000s a month just selling on craigslist.org so I am a true believer of this work at home job. Remember that it does take some effort and you may need to post 50 items a day when you are starting just to find out what you can sell. Some disadvantages are that if you have the items in your home people will need to come there to take a look. I do not suggest delivering items unless they pay cash before you start the move.

Sell Your Craft From Home

Many people create jewelry, household items, candles, baking goods, and other crafts from home. If you already know how to create a unique item that people really need and already works well then you could consider selling your craft. I know a number of people that sell vegan baked goods, provide spa treatments, and make things like fishing poles from home. They all make plenty of money to enjoy life with and they sell their items from home. Just make sure you already know about the things you are making. A few attempts in a high school shop class is not normally enough. You should really be an expert before committing your time to it. Sell your items over all of the major e-commerce sites like eBay, Amazon, and any others you can find.

List Your Free Work At Home Job

Do you know a way you can make money from home today in 2009 with out a scam? Post your list of ways on this site and we will publish it. Please be sure that the things you are suggesting are useful to other people. Promoting jobs that help others and make money are the only way to do it. Anything that does not help others is really not worth doing.

You may be trying to dissolve a relationship with a vendor, 1099 contractor, or even your land lord but when writing a business contract termination letter there are a few things to include so that everyone involved understands the details of the termination. This will reduce future problems and help to maintain the relationship with your business partner.

Before the Contract

Before entering into an ongoing contract be sure that all parties understand the termination process. Normally in business each party can either terminate their agreement with out notice or terminate the agreement with a 30 day notice. This is important to clarify in writing before entering into the agreement.

Contract Termination Sample Reason

Writing the Contract Termination Letter

Everyone has a different style and tone to their contract termination letters but after writing over a thousand contract termination letters there are some things that you may want to include for sure. These include:

Who are you are terminating the agreement with.

The part in the terms and conditions that provide instruction on how to terminate the agreement.

The date and time that the termination will take place.

Any reasons for the termination

Date of the termination from the agreement

How your business partner should follow up with you after the termination.

Ethics Count In Contract Termination Letter

Since we normally work with the vendors and people again it is important to have strong morals and business ethics when terminating an agreement. Be sure to pay your vendors when you have agreed to, be sure to give the appropriate notice if you may not be able to pay them, and do not enter into a contract unless you know for sure you can hold up your end of the deal. If not you may be burning a bridge that you will need one day. Be clear and professional with any termination letter with out using any personal insults or aggravated wording. There is no need to flame a fire when you just want to terminate a contract.

Contract Termination Letter Follow Up

After you have delivered the termination letter (you may want to have someone sign for it if it is very time sensitive) it may be smart to follow up with a quick call to confirm they have received the termination letter. This may also be a good time to negotiate any additional contracts in the future to save the vendor relationship. Be sure that you have paid your vendor in full when the contract is terminated so there is no additional confusion on payments.

Contract Termination Horror Stories

At one point a small business owner tried to terminate an agreement with me in Santa Monica with out notice. The vendor had a manager tell me after I completed the work that they did not have the money to pay me and may not have it for some time. This caused a lot of problems because one person did not follow through with there agreement. Be sure this does not happen to you and have the money in the band before you hire someone for a job. You may be taken to court if you can not pay the agreed amount.

Example Contract Termination Letter

1/1/2009

Address of Party 1

To Whom it May Concern:

Thank you for your business. Please consider this our notice to terminate the contract contract between (party 1) and (party 2) on good terms ending Month Day, Year. The original agreement allows this type of termination in section (provide section numbers here). The reason for the termination is (reasons for termination). If you have any questions about this contract termination please contact us by email at (email address). Thank you.

Sincerely,

Party 2 Name
