Adam, this is the type of industry and work that I have been doing for years as well. Some of my ideas include creating a contract that the client signs which details what will happen if you are not able to compete all of the features mentioned in the original quote. In my contract I provide the client with a full refund after 14 days if I am not able to complete all of the line items I detail. I also collect all of the finances for the project up front before I begin so this type of confusion does not happen.

I have a question:

I am a an independent software developer and I am having a problem with my client.

The client has paid 3000$ up to date for a project that I charged $5000 dollars for. Everything was paid in cash.

When I showed him the product he was ultimately unhappy. He wasn't unhappy with how the product was at the time, he was unhappy that the project was supposed to have some features that it didn't.

I explained to him that during our initial meeting some of the features he requested would be possible and some would not. When I came to him with the features that would not be possible he refused to make a next payment to continue the projects development.

Now I am left with the project on my computer and we are exchanging professional words via email..

He wants to take me to small claims court but I don't know what I am at fault for?

I want to terminate our relationship and I don't know if I can use this letter because I am the person who he contracted out.

What do you think?

You could have a TDS, ph, Ec meter delivered to your door or you have someone like myself come out and test it for you. The meter can test for many hours and only needs a second to take the TDS reading.

So I guess we would need a TDS meter though, to find out if we should change our water filters? Still, that's good to know, and thanks for posting the information.

This morning resting on the side of my home near Beverly Hills is a grasshopper that I measured at over 3 inches in body length, that is, from its head to the end of its folded wings. Took a photo but can't download it here.
When I showed it to my wife, she remarked that this morning she heard an unusual insect clicking sound from a nearby tree - one she'd expect to hear in the jungles of Costa Rica!
